Student Health Center - Medical Records

The Thielen Student Health Center (TSHC) maintains medical records, in either paper or electronic format, of care provided by TSHC.

PAPER MEDICAL RECORDS:
TSHC maintains paper medical records of patients seen prior to implementation of the electronic medical record (EMR) system, in August 2005. These paper medical records are maintained for 7 fiscal years after the last date of service or 7 years after the age of majority, whichever is longer.

ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS:
TSHC maintains electronic medical records of patients seen after the implementation of their EMR system August 2005. Electronic medical records are maintained for a minimum of 7 fiscal years after the last date of service or 7 years after the age of majority. Currently the EMR system does not allow for destruction/removal of electronic files. Therefore, TSHC maintains electronic medical records in the EMR indefinitely, subject to changes in the EMR system's capability.
